Ophthalmology department provides a well-equipped facility for the complete examination, diagnosis, and treatment (both medically and surgically) of all ocular diseases in both adult and paediatric patients. The department is comprised of a dedicated and well-qualified team of healthcare professionals with excellent support from nursing and administrative staff. Eye disorders can be diagnosed and treated at Gitanjali Hospital, including cataract, glaucoma, strabismus and amblyopia, ocular trauma, refractive disorders, cornea and external diseases, lacrimal drainage disorders, uveal diseases, and retinal disorders.
We are equipped with AMO compact with ICE technology system which minimizes tissue damage during cataract surgery. Micro Incision Cataract Surgery [MICS] is also available in which the wound size is even smaller. Our department also has Qualtal Axis Nano for accurate A scans.
Intraocular surgery is done with Zeiss OPMI 1FR pro surgical microscope and the finest titanium surgical instruments. All types of Intra Ocular Lenses [IOL], including foldable IOLs, toric IOLs and multifocal IOLs are routinely inserted with excellent results.
A comprehensive eye examination for children and infants is done. Visual assessment for non verbal is carried out using pediatric symbols. Treatment is available for common eye diseases such as refractive errors, amblyopia(lazy eye), allergy, infections, Congenital lacrimal duct stenosis and trauma.
The Glaucoma Clinic provides comprehensive care for glaucoma patients. Every suspected case of glaucoma undergoes diagnostic tests including applanation tonometry, gonioscopy and optic disc evaluation. Patients are managed medically and surgically with regular follow-up.
The Squint Clinic provides methodical assessment for diagnosis of various types of squint followed by appropriate management.
Counselling and early detection of diabetic retinopathy in diabetic patients. Pterygium and lacrimal sac surgeries are routinely performed at gitanjali hospital.
Ophthalmology Camps - The objective of the camps is to provide low cost intraocular lens implantation surgery for low-income individuals with cataracts who are unable to afford cataract surgery at higher centers. Members of the department have shown tremendous dedication in participating in these eye camps. Free eye camps are conducted on a regular basis. 1381 needy patients have received free treatment and medicines. More than 7000 school children have been screened across various schools in trivandrum for detection of visual problems.
